After much soul searching we have decided that in 2009 Indi will have her third and final litter. After even more soul searching we have chosen a different stud dog.

This in no way reflects on Dylon as with Indi he has produced 2 wonderful litters which we love dearly and of which we are very proud. However as I have always wanted a Tri colour and Ian "pinched" Bella (more of that later) We decided to increase the likelyhood of producing a "tri" by using Jackie and Alan Gardners Del.

So Indi has been on her travels again and went to visit Del on 16 October 2009. She has been scanned and is pregnant so we hope to have the patter of tiny paws around about 18 December 2009. What could this litter possibly be called this close to Christmas other than the "Chistmas" litter.

I said we expected Indi to have her pups round about 18 December but as her previous litters had been early; we were not surprised when she started showing signs that this litter also would be a day early. As the 17th wore on with no pups making an appearance I joked that she was waiting for me to get home from work; but as the evening passed and Indi started to become unusually agitated we realised that something wasn't quite right. After a phone call we were off to the vet for a late night call out which confirmed what we had thought, that Indi was making no attempt to "push" these pups out. Having tried an injection to help her out without success the decision was made that she was to have a caesarian.

She therefore ended up having her pups on the 18th after all. In the middle of the night she had 3 fit, healthy and rather large pups 2 boys and one girl. We have learned that it's the foetuses not the bitch that trigger the start of whelping. Small litters and the consequent under production of the hormone which triggers whelping can cause "primary uterine inertia" and we believe this is what happened in Indi's case and caused her difficulties, but as they say, all's well that ends well...

That left us with 2 problems; one, we had planned to call this litter the "Reindeer" litter but Santa had 8 reindeer, we only had three pups. The second problem was a large number of people on the waiting list for an Indi pup, some having been waiting 2 years. As Sue was looking to keep a bitch to keep the Indistorm line going and Alan as stud dog owner was very interested in a puppy that left us only one and some very difficult phone calls...

The first problem we resolved by calling them "The Christmas Litter", after all they were born on the 18th December. So as you can see below we have Frosty, Jingle Bell and Rudolph. Well, we had to keep some link to the reindeer after all. Frosty is the double of Bo, Sue's Borderstorm boy and Jingle Bell is very like her older sister Daisy at this age. (More photos in the gallery here).

However at the time of writing the second problem remains. . . Watch this space
